Q1005. Do we need an interpreter to register a marriage at a Thai district office?

In practice, yes, where one spouse does not understand Thai. The registrar must be satisfied that both parties understand the record and consent freely, and most district offices ask for an interpreter who signs the registration record. Requirements differ between offices — some ask for the interpreter's identification document — so confirm with the specific district office before the appointment.
