What does a Notary Public do in Thailand?

In Thailand, notarial work is done by a Notarial Services Attorney, a lawyer registered with the Lawyers Council of Thailand. They certify signatures, true copies of passports and documents, powers of attorney and translations for use abroad. Check with the receiving authority which certification it accepts before you start.

Bring the receiving organisation's instructions before arranging certification. A passport copy, signature witnessed on a power of attorney and a corporate signatory record are different tasks; staff need to know which task you need before confirming the documents and appointment.

Quick Answer

A Notary Public in Thailand is called a Notarial Services Attorney — use a lawyer registered to provide notarial services, not just any document witness. Ask our team for a quotation for personal or corporate documents. Completion depends on document checks and the confirmed appointment; same-day service is not guaranteed.

What to send staff before your appointment

  • For a certified copy, identify the original document and ask whether you must bring the original for comparison.
  • For a witnessed signature, send the complete form and recipient instructions. Confirm whether to leave the signature blank until the appointment.
  • For company documents, explain who will sign and send the records establishing their authority; a company stamp alone may not answer that question.
  • For overseas use, give the destination and receiving organisation. Notarial certification is not automatically a substitute for MFA or embassy legalisation.

Do not add certification steps just because a document is in English. Ask the recipient which certification and delivery format it requires.
