Thailand Police Clearance Certificate — For Expats & Global Use

Police clearance fingerprinting — Thailand Police Clearance Certificate — For Expats & Global Use
Police clearance fingerprinting — Thailand Police Clearance Certificate — For Expats & Global Use

NYC's licensed legal team handles the full Thai Police Clearance (PCC) chain for expats: filing with the Royal Thai Police (RTP) Criminal Records Division, English translation, MFA Apostille (Thailand deposited its instrument of accession on 30 June 2026 (entry into force 28 February 2027)), embassy legalization, and worldwide DHL delivery. Used for visas, PR applications, employer background checks, marriage, and any overseas requirement.

English

Expats living in Thailand under Non-B / Non-O / Non-ED / DTV / LTR / Elite / retirement visas, remote workers, digital nomads, students at Thai universities, spouses of Thai nationals, and any foreign national who needs proof of a clean Thai criminal record for use overseas.

What is a Thai Police Clearance Certificate?

The PCC is an official document issued by the Royal Thai Police (RTP) Criminal Records Division confirming that the applicant has no criminal record in Thailand. It's typically required when applying for visas, permanent residency, citizenship, or employment abroad, and when a receiving authority (embassy, immigration department, employer, court) asks for proof of a clean Thai record.

  • Issuing authority: Royal Thai Police (RTP) — Criminal Records Division
  • Original language: Thai (English translation attached)
  • Validity: 3–6 months from issue (varies by receiving authority)
  • Fingerprinting: full 10-print card required (taken at any Thai police station or RTP HQ)

Common use cases for expats

Based on NYC's expat case load, the top scenarios for requesting a Thai PCC are:

  • Immigration to another country (US EB-5, Canada Express Entry, Australia 189/190/491, UK Skilled Worker, EU Blue Card)
  • Permanent residency renewal in a new home country
  • Citizenship / naturalization applications
  • Marriage registration in a home country requiring proof of no criminal record from every country lived in >6 months
  • Employment background checks (multinational companies, especially finance, healthcare, education)
  • Adoption applications
  • Renewal of professional licenses (medical, legal, financial, aviation)

Apostille or embassy? — the 2025+ chain

Thailand deposited its instrument of accession to the Hague Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026; the Convention is scheduled to enter into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027. This dramatically simplifies the chain for the ~130 Apostille member countries (including USA, UK, Australia, EU, most of the Americas and Oceania). For those countries, MFA Apostille alone is enough — no embassy step needed. For non-Apostille countries (China treaty-mainland pending clarification, most Middle East, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar), the traditional MFA legalization + embassy chain still applies. NYC verifies the current requirement per receiving authority before starting.

Documents you need to provide

You only prepare these — NYC handles everything else:

  • Passport copy (photo page + all Thai visa pages + entry stamps)
  • All visa history in Thailand (Non-B, Non-O, Non-ED, DTV, LTR, retirement, etc.)
  • Work permit / student verification / marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • Recent passport-size color photos on white background (×4)
  • 10-print fingerprint card (NYC can arrange collection at partner stations or on-site)
  • Signed Power of Attorney (NYC provides bilingual template)

FAQ

Do I need to be in Thailand to apply?

Only the fingerprint collection step requires you in Thailand. Once fingerprints are on a valid 10-print card, NYC can complete the entire remaining chain (RTP filing, translation, MFA, embassy, delivery) under Power of Attorney while you're abroad.

How long does the full chain take?

Standard: on a timeframe confirmed after document review (PCC + translation + MFA + embassy). Express: on a timeframe confirmed after document review. Apostille-only chain (Hague countries) is faster since no embassy step is needed.

What's the total cost?

Fees depend on the documents, destination and urgency. Send your documents for a written quote after review — no prices are published. Any government or embassy fees are set by the authority; verify them directly before filing.

I've never had a Thai visa, only tourist entries. Can I still apply?

Yes. RTP issues PCC based on any period of stay in Thailand, even tourist visits. NYC compiles your entry / exit history from passport stamps as part of the application.

Can NYC ship internationally?

Fees depend on the documents, destination and urgency. Send your documents for a written quote after review — no prices are published. Any government or embassy fees are set by the authority; verify them directly before filing.

My destination country requires the PCC to be less than 3 months old on arrival. Can NYC time it?

Yes — NYC schedules the RTP filing so the certificate is issued as close to your submission deadline as possible while leaving buffer for shipping.

Frequently asked questions

Where is a Thai police clearance certificate issued and what is needed?
For overseas-use police certificates, consult the Police Clearance Service Center, Special Branch Bureau. Its website lists current office details, forms and separate instructions for applicants in Thailand and abroad. Prepare identification, purpose documents and Thai residence evidence where applicable, and follow the fingerprint requirements for your application channel.
How long does the certificate take?
Use the issuing office’s current processing estimate and allow for missing evidence, further checks and delivery. Translation or authentication, where required, adds separate stages. A preparation service cannot guarantee the police issue date.
Can someone apply on my behalf while I am overseas?
The official overseas guidance allows postal submission or someone in Thailand submitting on your behalf. Follow its requirements for original fingerprints, identification copies, power of attorney and representative identification. Confirm any certification requirements with the issuing office rather than assuming notarization is always needed.
Does the certificate expire?
The receiving authority sets the acceptable certificate age for the particular application. Ask for its written rule and sequence the certificate, delivery and follow-on work around that deadline; do not assume a universal validity period.
