Q1040. Must cross-border commercial trade contracts be endorsed by the Thai Board of Trade or Chamber of Commerce before MFA?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation legalization desk

Commercial contracts do not automatically need Thai Board of Trade or Chamber of Commerce endorsement simply because they involve cross-border trade. First, ask the overseas recipient whether it requires authentication of signatures, evidence of corporate signing authority, or chamber certification for a particular commercial purpose. Confirm with MFA which authentication chain it accepts for that private contract, including whether notarization or another certification step is necessary. Prepare the signed contract, relevant company records, signatory identification, and any required translation or representative authorization. Obtain chamber endorsement only where the applicable route calls for it. A common pitfall is applying certificate-of-origin procedures to an ordinary sales contract. Verify the required chain with the Department of Consular Affairs and receiving embassy before filing.
