Q1095. What security features, such as QR codes and MFA stamps, appear on legalized foreign documents?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation legalization desk

Legalized document packages can contain several different endorsements, depending on the issuing country and the authorities involved. These may include legalization stamps or labels, official signatures, seals, dates, reference numbers, and attached certification sheets. Some systems also use QR codes or online verification links, but a QR code is not a universal requirement for every Thai MFA or consular endorsement. To check a document, identify which authority issued each endorsement and use that authority’s official verification channel where available. Confirm that any reference details correspond to the document presented, and preserve all attached sheets and fastenings. A common pitfall is accepting a document as genuine simply because its QR code opens a webpage; the page may not belong to the issuing authority. Verify the endorsement with its official issuing authority before filing.
