Q1101. Do foreign education certificates submitted for Thai Education (ED) Visas require prior MFA approval?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation legalization desk
Prior Thai MFA legalization is not a blanket requirement for every foreign education certificate used in an ED Visa application. Requirements depend on the Thai embassy or consulate handling the application, the course, and the receiving school. First, obtain that mission’s ED Visa checklist and ask the school whether certificates or transcripts need authentication. If required, confirm the certification route in the issuing country, any Thai embassy legalization, and whether further Thai MFA legalization is needed. Arrange a certified translation in the language requested. Legalization authenticates signatures or seals; it does not approve academic qualifications. A common pitfall is legalizing a diploma when the checklist also requires transcripts. Verify requirements with the issuing Thai embassy or consulate before filing.
