Q1193. How do foreign proofs of address undergo MFA legalization?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation legalization desk

An overseas address document must first be acceptable to the Thai organization requesting it. Ask whether that organization accepts a government residence certificate, bank statement, utility bill, or sworn address declaration, and confirm any document-age limit. Then check with the responsible Thai embassy how that particular document can be authenticated. Privately issued bills or statements may require notarization or another preliminary certification before consular legalization. After completing the applicable overseas authentication chain, obtain a Thai translation if required and confirm the Department of Consular Affairs submission requirements. A common pitfall is legalizing an old utility bill that the receiving organization will reject regardless of its authenticated signature. Legalization does not independently verify that you still live at the address. Verify the accepted document and legalization route with the relevant official authorities before filing.
