Q1227. What regulatory compliance governs foreign energy and petroleum business licenses?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation legalization desk

An overseas energy or petroleum license does not by itself authorize operations in Thailand. Identify the proposed activity first, such as fuel trading, storage, electricity generation, or petroleum exploration, because different Thai permissions may apply. Consult the competent regulator, which may include the Department of Energy Business, Energy Regulatory Commission, or Department of Mineral Fuels, depending on the activity. Ask whether the foreign license is required as supporting evidence and whether it needs issuing-authority verification, legalization, and Thai translation. Check its holder, scope, expiry, and conditions against the applicant’s corporate records. A common pitfall is treating MFA legalization as recognition of a foreign operating license. Verify applicable requirements with the responsible Thai regulator before filing.
