Frequently asked questions
- Who issues a Thai police clearance certificate?
- The Royal Thai Police Criminal Records Division in Bangkok issues the certificate. Applications can be filed in person in Thailand or from abroad through an authorised representative, depending on the receiving authority's rules.
- Does the receiving country accept a certificate in Thai only?
- Usually not. Most immigration authorities require an English translation, legalisation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in many cases endorsement by their own embassy in Bangkok.
- How long is a police clearance certificate valid?
- Validity is set by the receiving authority, commonly three to twelve months from issue. Check the exact window before starting, because the whole legalisation chain must finish inside it.
- Can the certificate be requested while I am outside Thailand?
- Yes, through a power of attorney and fingerprint forms taken abroad and certified locally. The exact fingerprint format depends on where you are and is confirmed case by case.
- What do you need from me to start?
- Your passport details, the purpose and the destination authority. Send them by phone, LINE or email and we will confirm the document list and timeline.

Frequently asked questions
- Where is a Thai police clearance certificate issued and what is needed?
- For overseas-use police certificates, consult the Police Clearance Service Center, Special Branch Bureau. Its website lists current office details, forms and separate instructions for applicants in Thailand and abroad. Prepare identification, purpose documents and Thai residence evidence where applicable, and follow the fingerprint requirements for your application channel.
- How long does the certificate take?
- Use the issuing office’s current processing estimate and allow for missing evidence, further checks and delivery. Translation or authentication, where required, adds separate stages. A preparation service cannot guarantee the police issue date.
- Can someone apply on my behalf while I am overseas?
- The official overseas guidance allows postal submission or someone in Thailand submitting on your behalf. Follow its requirements for original fingerprints, identification copies, power of attorney and representative identification. Confirm any certification requirements with the issuing office rather than assuming notarization is always needed.
- Does the certificate expire?
- The receiving authority sets the acceptable certificate age for the particular application. Ask for its written rule and sequence the certificate, delivery and follow-on work around that deadline; do not assume a universal validity period.
