Fingerprinting step for a police clearance application — criminal record purpose slug
Fingerprinting step for a police clearance application — criminal record purpose slug

If you are outside Thailand, you can obtain a Thai PCC without travelling by (1) signing a Power of Attorney at the nearest Thai Embassy, (2) sending fingerprints on FD-258 taken at a local police station or FBI Live Scan center, and (3) authorising a Bangkok agent to file at RTP Section 8. Timing follows the authority's queue (confirmed after document review) end-to-end, a fee quoted after review plus courier.

Legalization Chain

  1. Sign POA at Thai Embassy abroad
  2. Fingerprints on FD-258 (local police/Live Scan)
  3. Courier to Bangkok agent
  4. Agent files at RTP Section 8
  5. Return by courier or embassy pickup

Required Documents

  • POA notarised at Thai Embassy
  • Passport copy
  • FD-258 fingerprint card
  • Purpose letter

⚠️ Real-World Pitfalls

  • RTP rejects prints taken by non-police / non-official venues — use police stations or FBI-approved channels only.
  • POA must be signed at a Thai Embassy, not a local notary — MFA seal alone is not enough.
  • Add 5–7 days courier time both ways.

Destination Notes

Available for Thai nationals and foreign residents who lived in Thailand 6+ months.

Frequently asked questions

Where is a Thai police clearance certificate issued and what is needed?
For overseas-use police certificates, consult the Police Clearance Service Center, Special Branch Bureau. Its website lists current office details, forms and separate instructions for applicants in Thailand and abroad. Prepare identification, purpose documents and Thai residence evidence where applicable, and follow the fingerprint requirements for your application channel.
How long does the certificate take?
Use the issuing office’s current processing estimate and allow for missing evidence, further checks and delivery. Translation or authentication, where required, adds separate stages. A preparation service cannot guarantee the police issue date.
Can someone apply on my behalf while I am overseas?
The official overseas guidance allows postal submission or someone in Thailand submitting on your behalf. Follow its requirements for original fingerprints, identification copies, power of attorney and representative identification. Confirm any certification requirements with the issuing office rather than assuming notarization is always needed.
Does the certificate expire?
The receiving authority sets the acceptable certificate age for the particular application. Ask for its written rule and sequence the certificate, delivery and follow-on work around that deadline; do not assume a universal validity period.
