01

Preparing for your appointment

Should I sign beforehand? No. The attorney needs to witness you signing. Can I bring a copy of my ID? Bring the original. The attorney will make a copy for the records. My document is in Thai and the recipient is in Germany. Do I need a translation? Usually, yes. Some countries require a translator registered in that country. Ask the recipient first.
02

MFA and embassy legalisation

Why might I need Department of Consular Affairs legalisation? It authenticates the attorney's signature. The destination embassy often requires this stage first. Is Apostille already available in Thailand? Thailand deposited its instrument of accession to the Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026. The Convention is scheduled to enter into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027. Until then, follow the route required for the document and by its recipient, which may include Department of Consular Affairs and destination-embassy legalisation. China is an Apostille Convention party. What do Thai documents going to China need? This depends on Thailand's status and the Chinese recipient's requirements. Before the Convention enters into force for Thailand, check with the Chinese embassy and the recipient.
03

Special circumstances

What if the signer is bedridden? An attorney can visit a home or hospital, but must assess whether the signer understands the document. What if the signer is abroad? A Thai attorney can certify a signature only when the signer appears in person. If you are abroad, use a local notary or the Thai embassy in that country.

Indicative fees

Ask our team for a quotation. Service charges are confirmed in writing after document review. Government and embassy fees are payable at the relevant authority's current rates.

Requirements set by receiving authorities, embassies and the Department of Consular Affairs may change. Check with the relevant official authority or document recipient before every submission. We do not guarantee any authority's decision.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have a document notarised for someone else?+

The signer must normally attend in person. Acting under a power of attorney is possible only where the receiving authority accepts it.

Does a notarial certificate expire?+

The certificate has no inherent expiry date, but many recipients impose document-age limits, such as three or six months.

Can an attorney certify a translation?+

The attorney can certify the signature of the translator who confirms the translation's accuracy.

What if the documents are returned?+

Send us the recipient's rejection message. We can review it and explain which parts need attention.

Frequently asked questions

Does Thailand have notaries public?
Thailand uses Notarial Services Attorneys registered with the Lawyers Council of Thailand for notarial acts within their permitted scope. Acceptance abroad depends on the recipient. Ask which certifier, wording and any additional authentication it requires; notarial certification is not the same as an Apostille.
What documents can a Notarial Services Attorney certify?
Commonly certified items include signatures on powers of attorney, affidavits and statutory declarations, certified true copies of passports and corporate documents, company resolutions and share transfer forms, sponsorship and consent letters, and the identity of a signatory for foreign banks, universities and courts. The attorney certifies the signing act or copy fidelity — not the truth of the content.
Do I have to sign in person?
Yes. The attorney must see the signatory in person together with the original passport or Thai ID before certifying a signature, which is the core safeguard of the service. Remote or scanned signatures cannot be certified. Mobile appointments at your office, condominium lobby or a nearby café are available if you cannot come to ours.
How much does notarial certification cost and how fast is it?
Attorney notarial certification is quoted after document review, with the final price depending on the number of documents, signatories and whether the appointment is mobile or out of hours. The certification itself is completed during the appointment; only the subsequent MFA and embassy steps add working days.
