FAQ
- Do Thai passport holders need a visa for Brazil?
- No for tourism/business ≤90d (extendable +90d, max 180d/yr) under Thailand–Brazil bilateral agreement (Decree 76/1959). But: work, study >90d, family reunion, and permanent residence require a visa (VITEM) issued by Consulate-General of Brazil in Bangkok (BTS Nana, Sindhorn Bldg 3, 15/F).

- Employer-sponsored, filed via Ministry of Justice (Coordenação-Geral de Imigração Laboral, Brasília). Employer must justify hiring foreigner (skills scarcity), minimum salary matches Brazilian equivalent, 2:1 Brazilian-to-foreigner ratio in company. Processing 30–60d MJSP + 15–20 wd consular. 2-yr validity, path to CRNM (Carteira de Registro Nacional Migratório) permanent residency.
- Investor visa (VIPER / VITEM XIV)?
- Two routes: (1) Real estate BRL 700,000 (urban) or BRL 1,000,000 (Northeast/Amazônia), 4-yr renewable → permanent. (2) Business investment BRL 500,000 in Brazilian company with job creation plan (min 10 local hires over 5 yr) → immediate permanent CRNM. Golden Visa pathways via Resolução Normativa 36/2018.
- Student visa (VITEM IV)?
- Acceptance from MEC-recognized institution (USP, UNICAMP, PUC-SP, FGV, IE Business School Brazil). Portuguese proficiency Celpe-Bras B2 for undergrad. Documents: acceptance, transcripts (Apostille Hague), financial proof BRL 5,000/mo, health insurance. Validity 1 yr renewable.
- Family reunion (VITEM XI)?
- Brazilian spouse or civil-union partner (união estável — Brazil recognizes same-sex civil unions since 2011) sponsors permanent CRNM. Marriage/união estável must be registered at Cartório de Registro Civil + Apostilled + translated by Tradutor Público Juramentado.
