If IRCC refuses the application
- Keep the refusal letter, application copy and date you received the decision. Read the stated reasons rather than assuming a missing translation was the cause.
- For an Access to Information Act request, check requester eligibility and consent. Eligible requesters include Canadian citizens, permanent residents and individuals or corporations currently in Canada; being based in Thailand does not itself qualify a requester.
- A fresh application should address the reasons and any changed evidence. Reconsideration is discretionary; this page does not promise a response, a reversal or a universal 14-day procedure.
- If considering Federal Court review, promptly consult a Canadian lawyer entitled to practise before the Court. IRPA section 72 sets different filing limits for matters arising inside and outside Canada; do not wait for records before seeking advice on your deadline.

Before sending documents for a quotation
- Identify the application category and provide IRCC's current document request or checklist.
- Send complete, readable pages; flag name spellings that differ between your passport and supporting records.

- Is a visitor visa the same as a study or work permit?
- No. A visitor visa is a travel document; a study or work permit concerns the activity authorised in Canada. Match the application to the intended activity and check whether a separate travel document is required. Neither a school offer nor a job offer alone guarantees eligibility.
- How long does an application from Thailand take?
- Use IRCC's current processing-time tool for the application category and location. Its figures are estimates, not a guaranteed completion date. Follow the deadline and collection instructions in your biometrics letter if IRCC requests biometrics; do not rely on a fixed timeframe published by a service company.
- Which documents help explain a temporary visit?
- Provide evidence that matches your stated purpose, funding, employment or other circumstances and intended departure. Avoid inconsistent dates, unexplained transactions or a generic purpose letter. IRCC decides which evidence is sufficient; a particular bank-history period or property ownership is not a universal approval formula.
- How do I obtain a company service quotation?

- Can an applicant in Thailand request GCMS records directly?
- For an Access to Information Act request, the requester must meet the applicable eligibility rules: Canadian citizenship, permanent residence, or being an individual or corporation currently in Canada. A requester acting for someone else also needs the required consent. Check IRCC's official instructions rather than assuming any overseas agency can file directly.
- What should I do after a refusal?
- Keep the letter and submission records, and seek appropriately authorised advice about the reasons and available options. A new application is not an automatic reversal; reconsideration is discretionary and has no universal 14-day procedure. Federal Court review has statutory filing limits under IRPA section 72, so consult a Canadian lawyer promptly rather than waiting for GCMS records.

- What is the DTV and who realistically qualifies?
- The Destination Thailand Visa is a five-year multiple-entry visa allowing stays of up to 180 days per entry, extendable once per entry by a further 180 days at an immigration office. It targets remote workers employed or contracted outside Thailand, freelancers with foreign clients, and participants in Thai soft-power activities such as Muay Thai training, cooking courses or medical treatment, and it requires evidence of the current official rate in available funds.
- How is the LTR visa different from the DTV?
- The Long-Term Resident visa is a ten-year visa administered by the Board of Investment for wealthy global citizens, wealthy pensioners, work-from-Thailand professionals and highly skilled professionals, and it bundles a digital work permit, a flat 17% personal income tax rate for the skilled-professional category and annual instead of 90-day reporting. The DTV is cheaper and faster but grants no work permit for Thai-sourced work and no tax privileges.
- Can I work in Thailand on a tourist or DTV visa?
- No — any work performed inside Thailand requires a work permit or an equivalent digital work authorization, regardless of where the employer or client is located. The DTV is intended for work delivered to foreign employers and clients; taking on Thai clients or a Thai employer requires switching to a Non-B or LTR pathway with proper authorization.
- What most often causes a Schengen or UK visa refusal from Thailand?
- The dominant causes are weak evidence of ties to Thailand, bank statements that show a sudden unexplained deposit shortly before filing, inconsistencies between the application form and supporting documents, insufficient or non-compliant travel insurance, and an itinerary that does not match the stated purpose. Refusals are recorded, so a re-application must directly address the refusal ground rather than simply resubmit the same file.
