Q1023. Do Thai name-change certificates (Por Kor/Sor Yor) require prior district office authentication before MFA review?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation legalization desk
Prior district-office authentication is not a requirement that can safely be assumed for every Thai name-change document. First identify the exact Thai document title and form number; informal labels such as Por Kor or Sor Yor may not establish the correct legalization route. Ask the MFA whether your original certificate is acceptable directly or whether a district-issued certified copy or signature verification is needed. If the document is damaged, unclear, or missing, request a replacement or certified record from the responsible registration office. Prepare any required translation, keeping former and current names consistent with supporting identity records. A common pitfall is supplying only the latest certificate when several changes must be linked. Verify the document-specific requirements with the Department of Consular Affairs before filing.
