Q1064. Can foreign driving licenses be translated and legalized for conversion into a Thai driving license?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation legalization desk
A foreign driving license can generally be translated and, when required, authenticated for a Thai license-conversion application, but legalization alone does not establish eligibility. Show the license to the Department of Land Transport office where you intend to apply and ask whether its language and format require a certified Thai translation or other verification. Confirm which translation certifiers and authentication routes that office accepts before commissioning the work. Submit the accepted license documentation together with the office’s other required application documents, and complete any applicable checks or tests. A common pitfall is translating an expired license and assuming certification makes it eligible for conversion. Verify the current conversion requirements with the Department of Land Transport before filing.
