Q1048. Can I translate a document myself and just pay a NAATI translator to check and stamp it?

Answered by NAATI Certified Practitioner · NYC Visa & Translation
You can offer your own draft, but you should not expect a NAATI-certified translator to simply stamp it without independently checking and accepting responsibility for the translation. Some translators will review client-prepared text; others will require a fresh translation under their own workflow. Send the complete Thai original alongside your draft, keeping names, dates, seals, handwritten notes, and registration details visible. The translator may need to correct substantial portions, so a draft does not necessarily reduce the price. A certification stamp is not a separate shortcut around the translation process. Before commissioning the work, confirm the translator’s current credentials through NAATI and ask whether their proposed certification format meets the receiving authority’s requirements.
