A NAATI Certified Translator has passed NAATI’s certification assessment, while a Recognised Practising Translator holds a credential based on professional practice where certification testing is unavailable. These are different credentials, not interchangeable labels or different levels of visa approval. Thai–English certification is available, so check that your translator holds the relevant Certified Translator credential and translation direction. Being based in Thailand does not itself determine the credential or whether an Australian authority accepts the work. Before ordering, search NAATI’s online directory or verify the practitioner’s credential through NAATI. Then check your receiving authority’s requirements, especially if its checklist explicitly asks for a certified rather than recognised practising translator.
