Yes, a NAATI-certified translator can certify an English translation of a Thai legal document drafted by an independent lawyer, but cannot thereby certify the document’s legal validity or authenticity. Provide the complete signed version, including schedules, stamps, handwritten additions and referenced attachments needed to understand it. Tell the translator whether it is a contract, affidavit, court submission or other instrument, and identify the Australian recipient. If the lawyer revises the Thai text afterward, the translation must be checked against that revised version. Notarisation, witness verification and legalisation are separate processes. Ask the receiving court or authority what it requires, and consult the Department of Consular Affairs if Thai legalisation is requested.
