India Family / dependant visa from Thailand (2026)

Landmark in India — planning a family / dependant visa from Thailand

Family members of Indian employment visa holders can apply for accompanying visas with properly certified relationship documents. Marriage to an Indian citizen follows India's marriage registration procedures.

Where Thai applicants often slip up on a India family / dependant visa

  • • Thai marriage certificates must be translated into English and certified.
  • • India has several marriage laws by religion — check which procedure applies to your case.
  • • Family members on long stays also register with the FRRO.

Requirements change — confirm with the embassy or official website before filing. We do not guarantee any visa decision.

Places Thai travellers often plan around in India

Rajasthan, Kerala backwaters, Goa, Ladakh, Varanasi, Bangalore (IT hub). Your itinerary, bookings and stated purpose should match the visa category you apply for.

Last reviewed 2026-07-04. Rules change — confirm on the official India government or embassy website before filing.

Preparation notes that avoid delays

  • Legalise Thai civil documents in the order the destination accepts
  • Build a continuous relationship timeline instead of a handful of photographs
  • Check whether a basic language certificate is required for the spouse route

Important notice

No agency can guarantee a visa. The decision belongs to the immigration authority of India. We prepare a complete, consistent and truthful file and explain the published criteria; we never submit fabricated documents.

Frequently asked questions

Can I work in India on a family visa?

Spouse and partner routes often allow work, dependant routes of students sometimes do not. The permission is printed on the residence card; we confirm the condition applying to your route.

Does a Thai marriage registration count abroad?

Yes, once the certificate is translated and legalised as the destination requires. Some countries additionally register the marriage locally before the visa is issued.

Can NYC guarantee the India visa will be approved?

No. The decision belongs to the immigration authority of the destination country. We prepare, translate and certify a complete, consistent file and advise on the published criteria — nobody can promise an outcome.

I live outside Bangkok — can I still use the service for India?

Yes. We work with clients in all 77 Thai provinces from the Bangkok head office and the Khon Kaen branch and agents in all 77 provinces. Documents travel by tracked courier; consultations run on phone, LINE and video. Only biometric enrolment requires you to attend the visa centre in person.

Frequently asked questions

What is the DTV and who realistically qualifies?
The Destination Thailand Visa is a five-year multiple-entry visa allowing stays of up to 180 days per entry, extendable once per entry by a further 180 days at an immigration office. It targets remote workers employed or contracted outside Thailand, freelancers with foreign clients, and participants in Thai soft-power activities such as Muay Thai training, cooking courses or medical treatment, and it requires evidence of the current official rate in available funds.
How is the LTR visa different from the DTV?
The Long-Term Resident visa is a ten-year visa administered by the Board of Investment for wealthy global citizens, wealthy pensioners, work-from-Thailand professionals and highly skilled professionals, and it bundles a digital work permit, a flat 17% personal income tax rate for the skilled-professional category and annual instead of 90-day reporting. The DTV is cheaper and faster but grants no work permit for Thai-sourced work and no tax privileges.
Can I work in Thailand on a tourist or DTV visa?
No — any work performed inside Thailand requires a work permit or an equivalent digital work authorization, regardless of where the employer or client is located. The DTV is intended for work delivered to foreign employers and clients; taking on Thai clients or a Thai employer requires switching to a Non-B or LTR pathway with proper authorization.
What most often causes a Schengen or UK visa refusal from Thailand?
The dominant causes are weak evidence of ties to Thailand, bank statements that show a sudden unexplained deposit shortly before filing, inconsistencies between the application form and supporting documents, insufficient or non-compliant travel insurance, and an itinerary that does not match the stated purpose. Refusals are recorded, so a re-application must directly address the refusal ground rather than simply resubmit the same file.
