Q1058. What translation rules govern special visa document sets (Non-B, LTR, DTV, Elite)?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation certified translation team

Each special Thai visa category has its own document set and its own translation rules. Non-B (business/work): the employer's corporate documents (DBD affidavit, shareholder list, VAT registration, financial statements) are Thai documents needing no translation for the filing; the employee's foreign documents (degree, police clearance where required) follow the standard legalisation-plus-translation chain. LTR: administered by the BOI with published document lists per category — foreign employment letters, tax returns, and corporate evidence are generally accepted in English without legalisation for the BOI stage, but confirm against the current BOI checklist; the health insurance and background documents have their own forms. DTV: the remote-work or soft-power evidence (employment contracts, client agreements, course enrolments) is accepted in English; third-language documents need English translation; legalisation is generally not required at application but the embassy may ask for originals. Thailand Privilege (Elite): the document set is minimal (passport, application forms) and translation is rarely needed. Cross-cutting rules: names must match the passport across every document; financial evidence must be recent (1–3 months depending on category); and where a document is translated, the translation should be certified — an uncertified translation can be rejected at the officer's discretion. Requirements change frequently — confirm the current checklist with the administering agency (immigration, BOI, or the Thai embassy where applying) before preparing the set.
