Q1122. If an applicant passes away while waiting for their police background check results, can heirs collect the document?

Answered by NYC Visa & Translation
Heirs should not assume they can collect a deceased applicant’s police certificate automatically; the issuing Royal Thai Police office must confirm whether release is permitted and to whom. Notify the office handling the application and provide the application reference before arranging collection. Ask whether it requires a death certificate, the requester’s identification, proof of relationship, or documentation establishing authority to administer the estate. A power of attorney signed before the applicant’s death should not be relied on without checking its continuing legal validity. Because the certificate contains personal information, family relationship alone may not establish collection rights. Foreign-issued supporting documents may also need translation or authentication.
