Q1131. If an applicant abroad signs a Power of Attorney in front of a Thai consular official, are local witnesses exempted?

Answered by NYC Visa & Translation
Signing a power of attorney before a Thai consular official does not automatically exempt you from any separate witness requirement imposed by the receiving police office. Consular authentication and witnessing can serve different purposes, so confirm the exact arrangement before your appointment. Send the proposed form to the relevant Thai embassy or consulate and ask whether the official’s certification satisfies its witness fields or whether additional witnesses must sign. Separately check acceptance with the Royal Thai Police Police Clearance Service Centre. Do not leave required fields blank based on an assumption. Follow the consulate’s instructions about identification and signing in person, and avoid signing beforehand unless expressly instructed.
