Q1181. If an applicant abroad executes a Power of Attorney before a Thai consular officer, are local witness signatures waived?

Signing a Power of Attorney before a Thai consular officer does not automatically waive any witness signatures required by the receiving authority. Consular certification and witnessing can serve different purposes, so follow the particular form accepted by the Royal Thai Police Police Clearance Service Center. Before your appointment, send the form to the Thai embassy or consulate and ask whether witnesses must attend, whether the officer’s certification replaces any witness section, and which identification copies are needed. Also confirm that the authorization expressly covers submitting the police-check application and collecting the certificate. Do not leave witness fields blank merely because the document carries a consular stamp.
