Q1017. How can I verify the official list of MFA-accredited translators in Thailand?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation certified translation team

The Department of Consular Affairs does not publish a public searchable list of accredited translators. What exists in practice is the MFA's internal record of translator signatories whose certification statements it accepts at the legalisation counter. The practical verification routes: 1) Ask the translator or agency whether their certification signature is on file with the MFA Legalisation Division and how long it has been accepted — a signatory whose stamps are routinely rejected would not remain in business. 2) Check whether the translator is registered with the Ministry of Justice as a court interpreter/translator for court work, which is a separate, verifiable register. 3) For sworn translation for specific countries, the relevant embassy maintains its own list (e.g., the French Embassy's list of traducteurs assermentés, the German Embassy's recognised translators) — these lists are published on the embassy websites. 4) The strongest practical test: ask the receiving authority (immigration office, court, Land Department) whether it accepts certifications from that translator before paying. Requirements change, so confirm the current position with the MFA and the receiving office before commissioning the work.
