Q1068. How are translations certified by the Thai Board of Trade and Federation of Thai Industries executed?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation certified translation team

Board of Trade of Thailand and Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) certifications appear in document chains mainly as chamber-level authentication of commercial documents — certificates of origin, company certificates, and commercial papers — before the MFA layer. How it works in practice: the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade issue and certify trade documents (notably certificates of origin for non-preferential trade), and their certification serves as the first authentication layer; the document then goes to the MFA (200/quoted on request per stamp) and on to the destination embassy where required. For translations specifically: these bodies do not certify translations as such — the translation certification route remains the MFA's certification of the translator's signature. Where chamber certification matters for a translation file: when a commercial document (invoice, company certificate, free-sale-related trade document) needs chamber authentication before legalisation, the sequence is chamber first, then MFA, then embassy, with the translation certified in parallel. Practical points: chamber certification is fast (often same-day to 2 working days) and inexpensive relative to embassy fees; the FTI's role is more industrial-standards and advocacy than document certification — confirm which body the destination country expects (some Middle Eastern and African embassies specifically require chamber-of-commerce stamps before they will legalise). Confirm the destination country's full chain requirements before starting — the chamber layer is mandatory for some destinations and irrelevant for others.
