Q1042. How long can I stay on a Standard Visitor visa?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation team
A UK Standard Visitor normally allows a stay of up to six months per visit, although your individual permission may be shorter. A long-term visitor visa’s expiry date does not authorize you to remain continuously in the UK until that date. Certain visitor purposes, including qualifying medical treatment or academic visits, have different provisions, which you should confirm with UK Visas and Immigration. Keep your intended trip consistent with the purpose and finances described in your application. Frequent or lengthy visits can raise concerns if they suggest that you are effectively living in the UK. Check your grant conditions, and do not assume visitor status permits ordinary employment or unrestricted study.
