Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation team

A Power of Attorney (POA) signed in Thailand for use overseas generally requires: (1) Drafting the content to match the receiving party's requirements — some countries mandate specific forms. (2) The grantor signs in person before a Notarial Services Attorney, with valid photo ID. (3) Legalisation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. (4) Legalisation at the destination country's embassy (or an Apostille once the convention applies to Thailand). (5) If the destination uses another language, a certified translation may also be required. Cautions: define the granted powers precisely to limit misuse, and check whether the receiving authority imposes a validity window on the POA (common for property transactions). The reverse direction — a POA signed abroad for use in Thailand — follows the mirror process: legalisation in that country, then certified Thai translation. This is general guidance; requirements and fees change — always verify with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Revenue Department, the Department of Business Development, or the receiving authority before proceeding.
