Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation team

Trademark applications are filed with the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Commerce. The general process: (1) conduct a preliminary search for identical or similar marks already registered; (2) file the application specifying the mark and the classes of goods/services; (3) the registrar examines formality, distinctiveness, and similarity; (4) the application is published for opposition within the prescribed period; (5) registration and issuance of the certificate. The overall timeline depends on the office's workload and whether there are oppositions or office actions, so it cannot be fixed in advance. Cautions: (1) a pre-filing search reduces the risk of refusal; (2) marks that are generic, descriptive, or contrary to morality are commonly refused; (3) cover the classes you actually use and plan to expand into. Our team handles the search, class strategy, filing, and follow-up through registration. This is general guidance; requirements and fees change — always verify with the Department of Business Development, the Department of Intellectual Property, or the Revenue Department before proceeding.
