Q1369. What is the BOI and which businesses can apply for investment promotion?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation team
The BOI (Thailand Board of Investment) is the government agency granting incentives to businesses in promoted activity categories under the Investment Promotion Act. Activities with promotion potential include target industries (electronics, automotive, digital, bio-medical), processed agriculture, logistics, and certain services. General baseline conditions: (1) incorporation as a Thai legal entity — foreign shareholding is permitted under BOI terms, often more liberally than the general Foreign Business Act (2) minimum investment capital as set for each activity (3) a clear, feasible business plan (4) compliance with activity-specific conditions such as Thai employment ratios and technology requirements. The activity list and conditions are updated by BOI announcements periodically. Our team assesses which category your business fits and prepares the promotion application documents. This is general guidance; requirements and fees change — always verify with the embassy, Thai Immigration, the Department of Livestock Development, the BOI, or the OIC before proceeding.
