Q1371. How do BOI companies hire foreign staff — are visas and work permits different?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation team
Significantly different. BOI-promoted companies use a special channel for visas and work permits for foreign experts: (1) expert positions are requested through the BOI's online system, without the ordinary capital-to-foreign-employee and Thai-employee-ratio conditions that apply to regular companies (2) work permits and visas are issued through the One Stop Service Center, consolidating the steps in one place (3) requested positions must align with the promoted activity and be pre-approved. Watch out: these privileges are tied to the company's BOI status — if promotion is revoked or the position does not match, permits can be affected, and experts must still meet BOI qualification criteria. Our team handles position requests, visa and work-permit documents, and renewals end to end. This is general guidance; requirements and fees change — always verify with the embassy, Thai Immigration, the Department of Livestock Development, the BOI, or the OIC before proceeding.
