Q1374. What is the Smart Visa and how does it differ from a normal work visa?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation team
The Smart Visa is a special visa for experts, executives, entrepreneurs, and investors in Thailand's target industries (digital, biotech, robotics, medical, and others), issued by the BOI with related agencies. Key differences from an ordinary Non-B visa: (1) Smart Visa holders in the T, I, E, and S categories are exempt from a separate work permit for work matching their certified activity (2) longer stays — up to four years depending on category (3) annual instead of 90-day reporting (4) spouses and children can accompany, with work rights in some categories. Watch out: you must first obtain a qualification endorsement from the relevant agency before applying for the visa, and each category's criteria are detailed. Our team checks which category fits you and coordinates the endorsement process. This is general guidance; requirements and fees change — always verify with Thai Immigration, the BOI, the Department of Tourism, or the Land Department before proceeding.
