Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation team

Thai workers legally employed abroad have rights under that country's labour laws — minimum wage, working hours, safety, and medical care — plus protection under bilateral labour agreements in some countries. If exploited: (1) keep evidence — contract, payslips, communications (2) contact the Thai embassy/consulate — many countries host Thai labour attaché offices (3) file complaints with that country's labour authority (4) in urgent cases call the Thai Ministry of Labour hotline. Watch out: never let an employer keep your passport — keep copies of key documents with you and send copies home; do not flee an employer without consulting the embassy, as you may become undocumented; and working on the wrong visa severely limits your protections. Our team coordinates with embassies, translates evidence, and pursues compensation claims. This is general guidance; requirements and fees change — always verify with the embassy, the labour ministry, or the immigration authority of the destination country before proceeding.
