NAATI Translation — Thai Police Clearance Certificate for Australia
A police certificate records the issuing authority’s findings; it does not decide Australian character eligibility. If requested content is in Thai, send complete pages and the recipient’s checklist, agree scope and quotation, check names and findings, then receive a translation from a translator whose certification and direction you verify in NAATI Directory. Timing depends on file review. An English certificate may not need retranslation, but check all annotations and the recipient’s requirements.

What should you prepare for this document?
- Include findings, annotations, seals and reverse-side text.
- Check former/current names, document identifiers and issue dates against the request.
- Identify any existing English version and include the actual further-information request.
What may lead to a request for replacement documents?
- Cropping findings or annotations from the supplied file.
- Unexplained former-name differences from identity records.
- Adding validity terms or translating findings as character approval.
These are preparation checks, not universal rejection rules. The recipient determines the evidence required.
What should not be guessed or changed?
Do not insert universal twelve-month validity or recast a finding as character clearance. Translation neither issues a police certificate nor waives authentication requested by the recipient.
Verify the receiving body’s requirements
Content reviewed 8 October 2026. Check the recipient’s current requirements before filing; translation does not guarantee an application outcome.

Frequently asked questions
Does an English certificate need another translation?
Check every page, including seals and annotations. If all information requested is already in English, further translation may not be needed. Supply the actual recipient request so remaining Thai text can be assessed. Do not assume every certificate requires retranslation, or substitute a translation for the original evidence specified by the recipient.
Does a no-record finding establish character eligibility?
No. The certificate reports the police authority’s findings. Home Affairs assesses character using the application’s evidence and applicable requirements. The translator must preserve the recorded result and any limitations, not add a statement that the applicant meets character criteria. A translated no-record finding does not guarantee a visa outcome.
How long is the certificate valid?
Check the receiving authority’s requirements against the issue date and relevant residence history. There is no safe single answer for every recipient or application. Follow any request for a new certificate. Translation cannot renew a police record and should not add a validity annotation absent from the original document.
Is consular authentication needed after translation?
Translation and authentication serve different purposes. Ask the recipient which copy format and additional verification, if any, it requests before commissioning extra work. NAATI certification does not universally waive consular authentication or an apostille requirement. Equally, avoid adding authentication steps that the receiving authority has not requested for this document.
What if the police certificate uses a former name?
Preserve the name in the source certificate. Supply passport spelling and name-change evidence so the recipient can connect the identity history. If the police record itself is incorrect, contact the issuer about correction. The translator should not silently replace an old name with a current one or remove relevant identity information.
How do I request a quote and delivery date?
Send readable complete pages, the recipient’s request and any existing English version. This allows only the necessary translation scope to be quoted. Agree price, timing and PDF or print delivery before work starts. NYCVisa offers a free initial enquiry, not a character assessment, legal opinion or promise that the application will succeed.
