§ SMART-O

SMART-O (Others) — Spouse & Dependent Children

SMART-O (Others) — คู่สมรสและบุตรผู้ติดตาม

Dependants of SMART-T/I/E/S holders — matching term, with the right to work.

Quick Answer

SMART-O is the dependant track for SMART-T/I/E/S — spouse gets immediate work rights and children can enrol in school without a Work Permit.

Timeline: 45–60 working days.

Who qualifies

Legally married spouses and children under 20 of a SMART-T/I/E/S holder relocating to Thailand.

  • Sponsor must hold a valid SMART-T/I/E/S visa.
  • Certified translations of marriage certificate (spouse) or birth certificate (child).
  • Police clearance and medical certificate per BOI rules.

Documents required

  • Copy of the primary SMART Visa.
  • Marriage / birth certificate (certified Thai translation + embassy/MFA legalisation).
  • Passport photos and passport bio-page.
  • Police clearance + medical certificate.

Workflow

  1. Submit SMART-O application with family docs on BOI Online.
  2. 30-working-day adjudication.
  3. Collect Endorsement Letter → visa at embassy or BOI One Stop.
  4. Annual reporting alongside the sponsor.

Benefits

  • Same term as sponsor (up to 4 years).
  • Spouse can work without a Work Permit.
  • Children may enrol in international / public / private schools.
  • Multiple re-entry included.
§ LEGAL BASIS

SMART-O is tethered to the sponsor's status; a revoked primary visa terminates the SMART-O.
