Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation certified translation team

Vietnamese, Myanmar, Lao, and Cambodian documents are the highest-volume third-language files in Thailand because of labour and cross-border family registration. The workflows differ by country. Vietnamese documents: legalisation by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City consular departments), then the Royal Thai Embassy in Hanoi or Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, then translation and MFA certification in Thailand. Myanmar documents: township-issued originals, legalisation by the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Naypyidaw or Yangon, Thai Embassy in Yangon layer, then translation; name fields in Myanmar documents often lack surnames, which requires careful notation in the translation to match passport usage. Lao documents: Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vientiane, Thai Embassy in Vientiane, then translation; Lao and Thai are linguistically close, so direct Lao→Thai translation is common and accepted for most purposes. Cambodian documents: Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Phnom Penh, Thai Embassy layer, then translation. For labour documentation (work permits, MOU workers), the receiving office is usually the Department of Employment, which has its own document format requirements. Confirm the current chain with the receiving office, as border-province offices sometimes apply simplified procedures.
