Q1390. How can a foreigner get a Thai driving licence?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation team
Foreigners can obtain a Thai driving licence at Department of Land Transport offices. General core documents: (1) passport with a valid visa (2) proof of address in Thailand, such as a Certificate of Residence from Immigration or an embassy letter (3) a medical certificate (4) your existing home-country licence or International Driving Permit — if held, the practical driving test is usually waived, leaving only aptitude tests (5) without an existing licence, you must attend training and pass written and practical tests. Watch out: foreign documents must be translated into Thai or English and certified as the DLT requires, and the first licence issued is typically temporary before conversion to a long-term one. Our team certifies the translation of your existing licence, prepares the documents, and books the DLT appointment. This is general guidance; requirements and fees change — always verify with the embassy, Thai Immigration, the Social Security Office, your bank, or the Department of Land Transport before proceeding.
