Q1395. What is a Re-entry Permit and why must I get one before leaving Thailand?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation team
A Re-entry Permit allows long-stay visa holders (such as Non-B, Non-O, or ED holders extended in Thailand) to leave and re-enter Thailand without their permission to stay lapsing. If you leave without one, your permission to stay ends immediately and you must apply for a new visa from scratch. Types: (1) Single Re-entry for one return (2) Multiple Re-entry for unlimited returns during the stay's validity. Apply at an Immigration office or the airport immigration counter before departure. Watch out: holders of genuine multiple-entry visas may not need one, but almost everyone on an extension of stay does — and a Re-entry Permit does not extend your stay. Our team checks whether your visa requires one and prepares the paperwork before your travel date. This is general guidance; requirements and fees change — always verify with the embassy, Thai Immigration, the Department of Consular Affairs, or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before proceeding.
