Bank Statement Certification in Thailand

Thai banks often issue statements in English, so translation or notarisation may be unnecessary. Months of history and bank letters depend on the embassy or institution.

Certification scope and key checks

The appropriate issuer is the bank. Many Thai banks issue English statements and balance certificates. Where the recipient accepts a bank-issued document directly, translation or notarisation may be unnecessary and should not be added without a requirement.

Months of history, balance and whether e-statements or stamped copies are accepted are set by the embassy, university or authority. Check the current checklist for that application rather than assuming three or six months.

Copy certification does not confirm funds are genuine or sufficient. Officers may review the source of funds and large deposits. Do not park borrowed funds or edit statement files; this can lead to refusal.

Documents to prepare

  • Bank-issued statement or balance certificate
  • Recipient checklist on months, language and format
  • Sponsor and relationship evidence if using another person’s account

Procedure for this document

  1. Check the recipient’s checklist before requesting from the bank
  2. Request an English version from the bank where possible
  3. Translate or certify only if the recipient requires it

Overseas use: confirm the recipient’s route

Notarization is not required for every public record, and some uses need no onward legalisation. Confirm whether the recipient needs an original, copy, translation or specific certification before arranging MFA and embassy steps where applicable.

Thailand deposited its accession on 30 June 2026. The Apostille Convention is scheduled to enter into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027. Do not assume Thai Apostilles are available before then. Even after entry into force, document scope and treaty relations with the destination must be checked.

Questions before booking

How many months of statements are needed?
It depends on the embassy or institution and application type. Check the current checklist before requesting from the bank.
Must a bank statement always be notarised?
No. Many cases use the bank-issued document directly. Notarise only when the recipient asks.
Are MFA and embassy legalisation always needed?
No. Ask the recipient to confirm the certification, language and onward steps. Notarization, translation and legalisation are distinct; do not perform every step automatically.
How are fees and timing assessed?
After reviewing the form, copies, signers, language and onward steps, we provide a quote and indicative schedule before work. Authority queues and outcomes are not guaranteed.
What should I send before booking?
Send the record type, destination country, receiving authority and its checklist through a direct contact channel. Redact personal information unnecessary for the initial enquiry.
