Birth Certificate Certification in Thailand
Check whether the recipient needs an original Thai birth record, an official certified extract or a translation. Notarization, MFA and embassy steps are not mandatory for every use.
Certification scope and key checks
A birth certificate is a public record, not a parental statement executed before an attorney. Copy certification compares the presented record; translation certification identifies responsibility for the translation. Neither corrects inaccurate birth-registration data.
Check the child’s and parents’ names, date and place of birth, and passport spellings. Provide name-change evidence where relevant. If the record is lost or illegible, ask the registry about obtaining a replacement or extract rather than recreating the document or guessing its form number.
Foreign passport, citizenship and dependent-visa applications may request different evidence. Birth evidence, parental authority and travel consent are separate issues; a birth certificate alone does not establish every parental right.

Notarization is not required for every public record, and some uses need no onward legalisation. Confirm whether the recipient needs an original, copy, translation or specific certification before arranging MFA and embassy steps where applicable.
Thailand deposited its accession on 30 June 2026. The Apostille Convention is scheduled to enter into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027. Do not assume Thai Apostilles are available before then. Even after entry into force, document scope and treaty relations with the destination must be checked.

- Ask the registry about a replacement or certified extract and confirm recipient acceptance. A copy-certification stamp cannot make unreadable information legible.
- Is an English translation always required?
- No. The recipient determines the accepted language and translator qualifications. Check its checklist before translating.
- Are MFA and embassy legalisation always needed?
- No. Ask the recipient to confirm the certification, language and onward steps. Notarization, translation and legalisation are distinct; do not perform every step automatically.
- How are fees and timing assessed?
- After reviewing the form, copies, signers, language and onward steps, we provide a quote and indicative schedule before work. Authority queues and outcomes are not guaranteed.
- What should I send before booking?
- Send the record type, destination country, receiving authority and its checklist through a direct contact channel. Redact personal information unnecessary for the initial enquiry.
