Divorce Decree Certification in Thailand
Registry divorces and court divorces produce different documents. Check whether the recipient wants the divorce certificate, registry entry, or judgment with proof it is final.

Certification scope and key checks
A divorce by mutual consent is registered at a district registry, while a court divorce relies on the judgment and, where requested, evidence that it is final; registration of the divorce may also be needed. Do not substitute one document type for another without checking.
Remarriage abroad usually requires proof the previous marriage ended. Some countries also want a current marital-status certificate. Confirm with the destination registration authority.
Translations must keep former-spouse names, dates, registration numbers and terms on children or property as written. Do not drop agreement pages if the full document is requested. Certification does not change the legal effect of the divorce.
Documents to prepare
- Divorce certificate/registry entry, or judgment with proof it is final
- Checklist of the receiving authority or registry
- Passport and post-divorce name-change evidence, if any
Procedure for this document
- Confirm the divorce type and the documents required
- Translate the full document faithfully
- Certify the translation and legalise if required
Overseas use: confirm the recipient’s route
Notarization is not required for every public record, and some uses need no onward legalisation. Confirm whether the recipient needs an original, copy, translation or specific certification before arranging MFA and embassy steps where applicable.
Thailand deposited its accession on 30 June 2026. The Apostille Convention is scheduled to enter into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027. Do not assume Thai Apostilles are available before then. Even after entry into force, document scope and treaty relations with the destination must be checked.
Questions before booking
- What is needed for a Thai court divorce?
- Usually the judgment and proof it is final; sometimes the divorce must also be recorded at the registry. Check the recipient’s checklist.
- Does a divorce certificate prove I am single now?
- Some countries want a current status document as well, because the divorce record only proves that marriage ended.
- Are MFA and embassy legalisation always needed?
- No. Ask the recipient to confirm the certification, language and onward steps. Notarization, translation and legalisation are distinct; do not perform every step automatically.
- How are fees and timing assessed?
- After reviewing the form, copies, signers, language and onward steps, we provide a quote and indicative schedule before work. Authority queues and outcomes are not guaranteed.
- What should I send before booking?
- Send the record type, destination country, receiving authority and its checklist through a direct contact channel. Redact personal information unnecessary for the initial enquiry.
