Q1043. Does the Department of Consular Affairs in Chaeng Watthana issue Apostille certificates directly for Thai documents?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation legalization desk
Do not assume that the Chaeng Watthana legalization counter can issue an Apostille simply because it authenticates Thai documents. Direct issuance depends on the Convention being in force for Thailand and on the office being officially designated and operational as an Apostille competent authority. Check Thailand’s current entry in the HCCH status table and competent-authority directory, then consult the Department of Consular Affairs’ latest service instructions. Ask specifically whether your document requires ordinary MFA legalization or an Apostille for the named destination. A common pitfall is describing an ordinary MFA legalization endorsement as an Apostille; they are not interchangeable certificates. Verify the available service with the Department of Consular Affairs before filing.
