Q1079. Are electronic documents and digital e-Apostilles from abroad accepted by the Thai MFA?

Answered by the NYC Visa & Translation legalization desk

Acceptance depends on the document type, its verifiable electronic signature, and the authentication framework currently applicable between Thailand and the issuing country. An electronic document or e-Apostille should not be assumed acceptable merely because it is valid abroad. First, send the Department of Consular Affairs details of the issuing authority, document format, and official verification link, and ask whether the original electronic file can be submitted. Also confirm the receiving Thai authority’s requirements, since MFA handling and final acceptance are separate questions. If a paper or additionally authenticated version is required, obtain it through the issuing authority’s approved process. A common pitfall is printing an e-Apostille and assuming the printout preserves its electronic verification features. Verify current acceptance requirements with the Department of Consular Affairs before filing.
