What the ED visa covers

The Non-Immigrant ED visa is for foreigners enrolled in a recognized educational institution in Thailand — universities, language schools, and approved training programs such as Muay Thai or Thai cooking at licensed schools.

The school must be licensed by the Ministry of Education to accept foreign students. Enrolling in an unlicensed school is the fastest route to a refused visa or extension.

The application sequence

First, enroll and pay the school; the school then issues an acceptance letter and supporting documents for the visa application. You apply for the ED visa at a Thai embassy or consulate, enter Thailand, and then extend your stay at immigration — typically in 90-day increments tied to continued enrollment.

Attendance matters: immigration can check whether you actually attend classes, and schools report enrollment status. The ED visa is not a workaround for long-term stay without studying.

Documents and translations
